Minji Kim (From the right)</h3> <blockquote>Dentbird Crown has lowered the barrier of digital dentistry at chairside – it is a new way of dental CAD to be recommended for those who desire automation of dental crown designs.</blockquote> <h5>Bonsu Dental Clinic, located in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, is a dental clinic specialized in digital dentistry, with “bonsu” meaning “keeping the fundamentals”. Dentists Gwangmoo Koh and Jisu Yang, a married couple, seek to provide digitalized treatment enwrapped by sincere human effort. Here we introduce the first user story of Dentbird Crown (formerly 3Dme Crown) from the two dentists actively using it to produce temporary teeth while maximizing the digital process from patient diagnosis to the end of treatment, and a dental hygienist Ms. Minji Kim, who is experiencing firsthand the changes in treatment environment.</h5> <h6>Q. Before we get down to the interview, please introduce yourselves and the dental clinic.</h6><h6> </h6>Yang: We are a dentist couple - Dr. Koh serves as an oral surgeon and I as an integrated dental specialist. Bonsu Dental Clinic has the concept of seeking digital dentistry. We maximize the use of digital procedure all the way from patient diagnosis to finishing the treatment. The final result is predicted upon the use of various types of dental CAD software in the diagnosis phase in which we try to maximize the digital method to achieve the expected treatment result. Koh: Seeking the digital method doesn’t mean that we do everything within the clinic, but we offer our patients the best service from start to end of treatment through the introduction of equipment and technology so as to manufacture the final prosthetic appliance within the clinic. In the end, digital devices or programs are manipulated by human hands. If the medical team doesn’t give its all in each treatment step, errors are prone to be made. That is why even though the method of treatment has changed from analogue to digital, the attitude and service provided toward the patient should stay equally earnest. Bonsu Dental Clinic aims to provide digital dentistry centering around warm-hearted human service rather than treatment simply using digital equipment. <h6>Q. What aspect of digital dentistry were you two attracted to?</h6><h6> </h6>Yang: The final result of treatment can be easily predicted when diagnosing patients, and I think it’s a major advantage to produce precisely the expected result. Koh: The benefit of using digital technique lies in processing the final product exactly as it was originally designed, and when an error is observed in the result value, it is easy to detect the step in which the abnormality occurred by tracing back the treatment procedure. In this sense, digital method is the means to overcome the limitations of an analogue system. Q. Please tell us how you came cross Imagoworks’ Dentbird Crown. Koh: I first learned the news of the founding of Imagoworks and Mr. Youngjun Kim, the CEO, through social media. Then I came across the automated alignment software, 3Dme Studio, when I was attending the CAD/CAM Master Class seminar. Later on, I started using the program as I got interested in AI as the concept of Imagoworks and have been using ever since. I look forward to its future since it’s a dental software corporation in pursuit of AI. Yang: Likewise, I was very much interested in the latest technology changes so the concept of AI-based technology drew my attention. <img src="https://landing-storage.dentbird.com/cdn/resources/backOffice/news/f48619a0-b157-4207-94cc-bbf4057e9588.MicrosoftTeams-image (1) 1.png"> <h6>Q. I assume you could have been hesitant to incorporate the software since it’s only been recently released. What made you decide on the introduction and what changes did it have in the clinic’s medical environment?</h6> Koh: Since the software is currently available for free, I had no cost burden and had an easy access to it. Yang: We weren’t worried about the outcome of crown design, either. The processed final product would come out perfectly identical to its design as long as the design itself is well completed in the CAD. We can also determine the application by evaluating the designed final product shown on the monitor screen. So far, no case has been found to create any issues when having applied crowns that were designed using the Dentbird Crown to an actual clinical practice. Regarding changes in the medical environment, the working environment of dental laboratory became much more convenient. The efficiency of manufacturing the dental prosthesis by a dental technician would only be enhanced when consecutively performing one single process. Since the step of manually making the temporary crown can be replaced with a couple of clicks on Dentbird Crown by the dentist, the dental technician can now focus on his own task without being interfered in the workflow. Kim: It is helpful because the treatment situation can be more clearly and specifically explained to the patients as the crowns designed at Chairside can be easily checked on the screen, and the treatment result can be well predicted. Plus, it was easy to pick up the manual. Q. How is Dentbird Crown different from the existing CAD? Yang: The fact that the software is not tied to the dongle. The existing installation software can only be used on one PC at a time and the dongle may be damaged along the way. However, Dentbird Crown is cloud-based and can be used on multiple PCs just by logging in, and the stored case records can be directly identified and organized, thus making it more convenient. The major distinguishing factor is indeed the fact that it’s AI-based. AI technology allows designs to be completed by clicking a few buttons. It saves up half the time compared with the existing CAD software. Koh: I believe that Dentbird Crown is a step further ahead in the lead in terms of accessibility in that dongles do not need to be purchased for every module like other CAD. What is more, the easy interface makes it trouble-free for dentists unexperienced with CAD.&nbsp; Q. Are there any tips on making further use of Dentbird Crown? Yang: First, you need to accurately acquire the scan data to be uploaded. You need to be aware that parts that cannot be seen by the eyes of a dentist do not appear in the oral scan data either. Also, although it would be updated in the future, since only the single crown case for the natural posterior tooth is available with the current Dentbird Crown, it would help to be well acquainted with the indications. By testing diverse cases, we were able to identify the indications for which patient cases may be applied to the current version of Dentbird Crown. Since we mainly applied possible cases, there was no experience of failure in the clinical application so far. Q. To whom would you recommend Dentbird Crown, and what advice do you have? Yang: I think I could recommend it to dental clinics with oral scanners but no milling machine. Since Dentbird Crown is sufficient for temporary crown cases, you would only need to purchase the 3D printer, of which the cost of introduction is significantly lower than that of the milling machine. I recommend it to those who desire the automation of manufacturing temporary teeth.&nbsp; Koh: Since crowns can be easily and quickly made using Dentbird Crown, I recommend it to dental clinics that have oral scanners and 3D printers but no dental laboratory or clinics that are located far from the laboratory.Lastly, I believe that Dentbird Crown has lowered the barrier of digital dentistry for dentists.
